Arizona Connection To Mexican Power Grid Gets State Approval



State regulators this week approved a joint proposal by UniSource Energy Services and a Texas-based company to create a cross-border power project with a hub in Nogales, as well as enhance an existing transmission line that serves Santa Cruz County.

The Arizona Corporation Commission (AZCC) unanimously approved the plans during a public meeting Tuesday in Phoenix.

“Approval of this project will allow for Arizona to connect to Mexico’s electrical grid and allow for further business between Arizona and Mexico,” AZCC Chairman Tom Forese said in a news release that also touted the plans’ potential to improve grid reliability in Southern Arizona and provide emergency resources for electric systems on both sides of the border.”
