The meeting with legislators is an annual event that gives Realtors a chance to hear about possible upcoming legislation and express their thoughts on anything that might impact homeowners. Approximately 350 Arizona Realtors attended the event this year.

Arizona House Speaker J.D. Mesnard addressed the group, which also enjoyed a lunch with legislators.

“You guys do a phenomenal job of getting involved,” Mesnard said. “I applaud you on your engagement.”

Kent Simpson, a Realtor with Tucson’s Long Realty Co., said he makes the trip to Phoenix every year.

“It gives me an opportunity to learn what is coming down the legislative pipeline and what issues are affecting Realtors, the industry and our clients,” he said.

Concerns brought up at this year’s event included professional service taxes that might put more tax burdens on property owners and the Homeowners Rebate Program.

“One our most important functions is to act as an advocate for the real estate industry on a political level,” Arizona Realtors CEO Michelle Lind said. “We advocate for the rights of property owners and a free-market business environment.”
