Move Over, Switzerland: Fountain Hills To Be Watchmaking Capital



FTS USA, a newly formed Arizona company, said it will start making watch components and finished watches at a campus of the East Valley Institute of Technology through a partnership with Titan Co., which will sell it parts, share technical expertise and use the venture to broaden the reach and familiarity of its products outside India.

Titan, the world’s fourth-largest watch manufacturer, is owned by the giant Tata Group, an Indian conglomerate with $100 billion in annual revenue whose many brands include Jaguar and Land Rover automobiles.

The Fountain Hills venture will involve the assembly, testing and repair of watches, with production slated to begin next month, said Kunal Naik, CEO and co-owner of FTS USA, who described the effort as the “rebirthing” of the American watch-manufacturing industry.
