ADOT Sets Maricopa Meeting for Highway-rail Crossing Project

The Arizona Department of Transportation has scheduled a meeting next week in Maricopa for the public to review plans for a highway improvement project scheduled to begin construction later this year.

The Wednesday evening in meeting the Maricopa Unified School District’s board room will be about a $55 million project that includes building a bridge for State Route 347 to cross over the Union Pacific Corp.’s railroad’s tracks.

The project also includes a new alignment for SR 3547 and a new intersection with the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The bridge is intended to eliminate railroad-related delays for SR 347 traffic.

Tens of thousands of vehicles use the highway daily, while dozens of trains use the railroad tracks daily.

The project is expected to take about two years to complete.
